National Language Assessment Training Services (NLATS) provides support to all Language Assessment and Referral Centres across Canada by coordinating and providing functional guidance and training, program delivery materials and tools, and sharing information and best practices. Our ultimate objective is to ensure that newcomer clients receive accurate language assessments and referrals in accordance with the Canadian Language Benchmarks.

The Centre for Education & Training is the only provider of assessor training in CLBA, CLBA-LL and ELTPA. TCET has provided assessor training to new employees of Language Assessment Centres since 1996. TCET also provides recertification and recalibration.


National Language Assessment Training Services is responsible for providing the following services:

  • Distribution of CLBA/CLBA-LL Assessment Forms

Currently, training is available to assessors of government-funded adult ESL programs throughout the country which meet the standard requirements. In some regions, additional restrictions may apply.
